The international seminar (HRCHR-2022-Symposium On Design of turbines and OpenFOAM methods) sponsored by Hydropower Research Center For Himalaya Region (HRCHR) was held online on 30th, Nov. 2022. More than 40 scholars from Wuhan University, Kathmandu University, Norwegian University of Science and Technology, and International Center for Integrated Mountain Development attended the meeting. Prof. Zhongdong QIAN, who is the Deputy Director of the State Key Laboratory of Water Resources and Hydropower Engineering Science and Director of the Himalayan Hydropower Research Center, chaired the symposium. Assoc. Prof. Zhiwei GUO and Asst. Prof. Sailesh Chitrakar were the co-chair of the event.
Prof. Zhongdong QIAN delivered a welcome speech on behalf of HRCHR, and Assoc. Prof. Zhiwei GUO made an introduction to HRCHR. Prof. Ole Gunnar Dahlhaug of the Norwegian University of Science and Technology and Ms. Chi Huyen Truong of the International Center for Integrated Mountain Development delivered remarks respectively, looking forward to furthering multilateral cooperation in hydropower development in the Himalaya region.
Dr. Sailesh Chitrakar of Kathmandu University was invited to give a plenary lecture, introducing the latest achievements in the design of turbines. Qinqin ZHONG, Junde SHI, and Ravi Poudel respectively reported on the basic algorithm theory of OpenFOAM, the application of OpenFOAM method and the experimental test rig of turbines. Finally, Prof. Hari Prasad Neopane of Kathmandu University made a concluding speech.
The successful symposium has not only provided an important communication platform for research on cutting-edge scientific issues in hydropower development in the Himalaya region, but also promoted cooperation between research teams and international organizations in different countries, laying a solid foundation for further research cooperation in hydropower in the Himalaya region.
